General Info
Before You Donate
theExchange strives to provide quality furniture that directly reflects the high level of dignity and respect we hold for those we serve.
theExchange gratefully accepts essential household items in good working condition, gently used and free of rips, stains, tears and odors.

-
Before donating, ask yourself: “Would I give this item to my best friend?”
-
Many recipients live in housing that cannot accommodate large furniture pieces.
-
We provide only the essentials needed for starting out in a home, so we do not accept decorative items.
-
All items are provided free of charge to qualified recipients. We do not sell your donated items.
-
Furniture and household items must be clean (no stains, rips, odors, or pet hair) and in good working order.
-
We reserve the right to refuse donations that do not meet our quality standards.
Drop-Off Hours
-
Small item donations accepted Monday–Thursday afternoons starting at 1 PM
-
Monday & Wednesday: Close at 3 PM
-
Tuesday & Thursday: Close at 4 PM
-
Please do not leave donations outside when theExchange is closed.
Large Item Donations

For large furniture (e.g., couches, dressers, tables, mattresses):
-
Email pictures and dimensions of each item to: theexchange@shelterdevelopment.org or text pictures of furniture items to 608.301.5345
-
This ensures items meet our quality standards, current needs, and warehouse capacity.
